It is common for a word to be used as both a noun and verb, i.e. to hammer with a hammer. In both Standard Cantonese and Taishanese, there's usually a tone difference between the two forms, and the noun form usually come with a tone change. Here's a tentative list in Taishanese. Can you come up with more?

From the growing list we can observe that:
Note that the verb 包33 to wrap produced two nouns 包21 sack/bag and 包335 bun with different tone level shifts.

Some can pair together to make new words. For example, 油33335 a house-painting job, 包33335 bun making, 数5533 number counting, and 对33215 a game to complete a couplet after one party propose the first half.

Just to note that the noun form of 油 can take on different tones, i.e. 油33 as oil or 油335 paint/lubricant. This is another common tone-change effect that we will discuss later.

1. 点 simple dot is an old noun. It is one of the 11 basic strokes for composing Chinese characters. Its verb form appeared much later. In Middle Chinese, the noun and verb form of 点 had different tones.
